Albury trainer Donna Scott had a couple of compelling reasons to race Our Last Cash at Flemington and they were vindicated when the lightly raced six-year-old gelding won the VRC Members Sprint (1100m, Benchmark 78).

The first one was a logistical one, as she said Our Last Cash was a quirky horse who sweated up when he travelled, so the decision to head to Flemington instead of Sydney was an easy one for Scott.

“He’s a bit quirky, so we thought we’d take the three-and-a-half-hour float trip to Melbourne easier than the six-hour trip to Sydney,” Scott said.

Scott was also keen to test the water at the Flemington straight with Our Last Cash as he is a half-brother to Lord Von Costa, who won three races there.

“Lord Von Costa loved the straight, so we decided to see whether he could handle it,” Scott said.

“We think he’s a bit better than Lord Von Costa, but he’s a bit quirky.”
