The World All-Star Jockeys (WASJ) is an international event launched by the JRA and it will be held on 23rd & 24th of August 2025.
The World All-Star Jockeys (WASJ) is an international event launched by the Japan Racing Association. Initially established in 1987 under the name “the World Super Jockeys Series,” it has welcomed more than 260 top-caliber jockeys from Europe, North America, South America, Oceania and Asia. Renamed the World All-Star Jockeys as a summer event at Sapporo Racecourse in Hokkaido in 2015, a team competition was added to the regular individual contest in which the overseas and NAR jockeys’ “Team WAS (World All-Star)” compete against “Team JRA” to attain the most points as a team.
The first two of the four-race series will be conducted on August 23rd (Sat.), while the remaining two will be held the following day.
Yet there was cheer for Team World All-Stars, who claimed a long-awaited victory in the team contest, ending Team JRA’s eight-year dominance with a decisive 246-202 success.
In the fourth and final leg, Race 12 over 1800m on turf, 2007 champion Craig Williams struck with a perfectly-timed late run aboard the well-fancied Pink Jin. Producing his mount down the outside, Williams collared the leader inside the final strides to prevail by a neck. Teetan, aboard the well-backed Meiner Ocean, was left in traffic and could finish only ninth, while Badel’s mount Grand Gold never threatened, trailing in 12th.
At the conclusion of the first day of the event, German rider Thore Hammer-Hansen held sway in the individual standings on 42 points, ahead of Japan’s Ryusei Sakai (31) and Argentina’s Francisco Goncalves (28). BMW Hong Kong Derby-winning rider Craig Williams of Australia occupied fourth position with 21 points.
