Champion jockey Craig Williams has stolen the show at the Caulfield Heath track with four winners to follow a double there on Thursday.
Williams snared wins aboard Dragoon, Bon Mistress, Grand Larceny and Inhibitions and has now ridden seven winners at the track from just 16 rides.
It was his first quartet since he won four races at Caulfield on July 23, 2022.
While Williams was at his brilliant best in the saddle, there was one area which he was struggling in was with his voice as his voice was hoarse.
Williams said he had done every test and didn’t have a virus but for some reason he had the affliction.
“I don’t have anything wrong. I’m fine. I have to use my lower voice. Everyone is happy because I can’t talk as much as usual. My body and mind are both great. I don’t know what it is. Maybe I’ve over-talked; it’s taken 46 years,” Williams quipped.
The star jockey has zoomed into second placing in the Melbourne Jockeys’ Premiership with 28 winners and is now just three wins behind Blake Shinn.
Trainer Wayne Hawkes said the well-bred Grand Larceny, who won the Benchmark 78 (1000m) had returned to work as a better horse as a gelding.
Grand Larceny is by Zoustar and is a half-brother to Golden Slipper winner Yes Yes Yes. His ownership group includes RVL chairman Tim Eddy, director Mark Player and former RVL chairman Rob Roulston.
Hawkes said the four-year-old gelding had been a work in progress but had a future down the track.
“He’s won his last two starts and he was desperately unlucky the start before,” Hawkes said.
“He’s starting to put it all together. We’re in no rush with him. Next spring might be when he gets to better heights.”
