Star racehorse Mr Brightside showed his champion qualities to score a game win in the Group 1 C.F Orr Stakes at Caulfield.

He was a shade slow to begin but jockey Craig Williams had him travelling nicely in fifth place as the field strung out behind Pride Of Jenni who rolled along quickly in front.

Buffalo River headed Pride Of Jenni in the straight but she fought back only for Mr Brightside to dig deep and grab her near the line.

Buffalo River held on for the third ahead of the three-year-old Veight.

Craig Williams (Mr Brightside): “Credit’s got to go to the Hayes boys. Ben, Will, JD Hayes, their stable, I’m very lucky.

“Today was a bit of hard work, it was hard, usually when he starts off his preparation he’s a little bit cheeky, a bit full of himself because he’s got improvement and today he got to the start and reared and we were lucky enough to get from a nice barrier into a nice position, he raced well but then wow, Jenni’s such a tough horse which we know, the last time I met her and that was a brutal run race and I’m just very lucky that even through my urges to keep him balanced, he’s just got an amazing ability but great will to win.”
