Williams extends title lead

Craig Williams extended his lead in the Melbourne Jockeys premiership after riding three winners at Caulfield on Saturday.
The 41-year-old jockey guided Alfarris ($3.60 favourite), Zoutori ($2.40 favourite) and Order of Command ($4) to victory as his main premiership rival Damien Oliver rode at Morphettville.
The treble meant Williams increased his lead to nine, riding 60 winners for the season ahead of Oliver’s tally of 51 victories.
Between them, Williams (seven) and Oliver (10) have won the Melbourne title a remarkable 17 times.
Williams told racing.com on Wednesday that winning the Melbourne jockeys’ premiership for an eight occasion was a high-priority.
However, Williams will be absent from Melbourne next Saturday.
“I’m going to Adelaide next Saturday to ride Iconoclasm in the Goodwood and then I’ll be back in Melbourne to ride at Flemington’s Andrew Ramsden Stakes meeting on May 25,” Williams said.
“And then from there, unless I’ve got Group 1 commitments in Brisbane I’ll be staying at home.
“Today is the 21st last meeting in Melbourne for this season, we’re counting down now,” Williams quipped.
