Music Bay wins Queen Of The South

Music Bay registered her first victory at Stakes level on Saturday when claiming the Group 2 Hughes Limousines Queen Of The South Stakes at Morphettville.
The daughter of Choisir was confidently supported in betting, firming from $6.50 on race morning to $3.50 favourite at the jump despite some queries over her ability to run out the 1600 metres.
Music Bay raced outside the leader, the only other three-year-old filly in the field Tahitian Dancer, before moving clear midway down the straight and then surviving the late challenge of Snogging ($81) to win by a head.
“She really deserved that, it was a good win,” said Philip Stokes, trainer of Music Bay.
“We’ve got her right this prep, she’s been luckless a bit in Melbourne.
“Craig (Williams) gave her a lovely ride, kept her nice and balanced. She only just ran the mile out but it doesn’t matter because we got the money.
“I would have loved for a horse to settle in front of her because she would have switched off better, she did run through the bridle, but down in the weights she was too good.”
Music Bay has raced 11 times for three wins and four seconds with silver medal efforts in the Listed Dequettville Stakes (1050m) and Listed Cap d’Antibes (1100m).
